‘Grow with Roses’

The John Cabot Rose Group (JCRG) is a sub-group of ‘The Newfoundland Horticultural Society’ (NHS) so its members belong to both organizations.  JCRG members have a particular interest in the cultivation of roses, especially those varieties that grow well in our zone.  This experience is gained through the exchange of information at lectures, workshops and demonstrations.

The John Cabot Rose Group is also a member of National-Roses-Canada.

Each year in July at the NHS’s exhibition  “Newfoundland Blooms”,  at MUN Botanical Garden, JCRG members put on an impressive display of a wide variety of exquisite roses.

NHS member Marie Anne Boulain heads the rose group.  She would like other NHS members who are interested in roses to contact NHS at our email address.  The list of rose enthusiasts will be contacted for further activities focused on roses.

As rose enthusiasts you are in good company.  Did you know......   Joséphine de Beauharnais (Empress Josephine, first wife of Napolean Bonaparte) was the first great collector of roses in the modern Western world, and her horticulturalist André Dupont pioneered the development of new hybrids using controlled pollination at her Malmaison estate near Paris.  She has been called the godmother of modern rosomaniacs.   ROSOMANIACS!!
